Other factors are also impacting how much you will pay for work comp. As of January 1, 2013, NCCI has made significant changes to your Experience Mod Factor Calculation. By raising the “split point” of a claim (primary loss) from $5,000 to $15,000 over the next 3 years, any claim over $5,000 will impact your E-Mod more than it did prior to the change. In the past, the amount of the claim over $5,000 (excess) was factored at a much lower rate than the primary loss. Before, a $15,000 claim would have counted as $5,000 primary and $10,000 excess. With the new formula, the entire $15,000 claim will count as primary against your E-MOD.
The new formula will require that companies manage their claims like never before.
